Newtown has always meant something to me.

As a cultural hub, a creative space, a place where Johannesburg’s energy is most alive — being invited to speak on Newtown Radio felt like the right kind of platform. Not corporate. Not polished to the point of being sterile. Real.

What we talked about

The conversation covered ground that I find myself returning to again and again: what it actually takes to build a business from nothing in South Africa, what young entrepreneurs get wrong in the early stages, and why so many people with genuine talent and potential never make it past year two.

The answer, more often than not, comes back to mindset.

Not because mindset is a buzzword — but because your thinking is the foundation of every decision you make. If your thinking is rooted in scarcity, in fear, in “I’m not ready yet” — your business will reflect that. Every single time.

What I want people to take from these conversations

Every time I do a radio interview, I’m aware that someone is listening who needed to hear something specific that day. Maybe it’s a young person sitting in their car wondering if they should quit their job and bet on themselves. Maybe it’s someone who’s been talking about starting a business for three years and hasn’t pulled the trigger.

I speak for that person. Always.

The message is consistent: the conditions will never be perfect. You will never feel completely ready. Start anyway.

Thank you to Newtown Radio for creating a space where these conversations can happen.
